Karigon Elementary
School Library

I was a kid who REALLY loved to read, and library day was my favorite day of the week in school. My elementary school library had a great smell, and it was full of all sorts of old books. I went to elementary school in the 1970's, but if I had my choice I would have lived with the Moffats during WW2, or with Lois Lenski's Strawberry Girl in the Great Depression, or in the 50's and 60's with Ramona Quimby, Ellen Tebbits, and Henry Huggins, or 100 years ago in Sweden with Astrid Lindgren's mischievous Emil, or with Sydney Taylor's "All-of-a-Kind" family in the Lower East Side in the early 1900's. There were also non-fiction books about geography and history beautifully illustrated by artists, as opposed to photographs, like they are today. Stepping into that library was really like stepping back in time for me! It was the one magical experience in the generally mean-boring-white suburban-middle class- public school grind that was my "education".

This bracelet was inspired by all of the wonderful books I loved, the colors of old cloth bound library books, and the illustrations of bygone days. It was lovingly made out of vintage plastic, china, and fabric covered buttons sewn on to elastic with sturdy thread.

This bracelet comfortably fits my wrist, which is about 6 inches around. You want these to not be tight, because the band is elastic. If you would like something similar but need a bigger or smaller size please e-mail me!
