St. Clare of Assisi and Rabbi Harold Kushner

This shrine is dedicated to all people living with chronic or terminal illness and their families and caregivers. The proceeds from this shrine will be donated to St. Peter's Hospital Regional ALS Center.

Rabbi Harold Kushner wrote a wonderful thing about prayer that has really helped me deal with my brother's diagnosis of ALS. The quote is included on the back of the shrine, basically it says that when we pray for courage our prayers are often answered. St. Clare, the Illuminator, and the patron saint of television, is famous for some pretty intense prayer.

The innersole of the shoe says "hope", because sometimes we're walking around on hope. When hope fails, though, it's time to pray for courage.
