| Since 2000 I have been making art about saints including mixed media shrines and paintings which combine spirituality with my memories, gleanings from different cultures including the cheezy-charming aspects of American life over the last century and political or social commentary. The saints I paint are not idealized portraits. They look like us because real people, living now, embody what is holy and do God’s work despite our faults and frailties. The shrines are mixed media, combining painting, sculpted elements, collage, fabric, stuff I find on the ground or in the sofa cushions, and glitter.
