St. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals, animal welfare organizations,and the environment and one of the most beloved saints. He is the founder of the Order of Franciscan Friars, who owned nothing and served the poor and the sick. He is famous for preaching a sermon to a flock of birds, for writing beautiful prayers (including Canticle for Brother Sun), for his gentleness, and his wisdom.
